Merry Fisher 805 - Lewci

The first picture above was taken in The Wash in February 2009 shortly after we purchased Lewci, the other pictures are more recent and all are of Lewci. In addition to the slideshow above, any of the pictures below can be clicked to view them full size in a new tab or new window.

Lewci was built in 2003 and commissioned in August 2003. We purchased her in November 2008 from her original owners, with just 149 recorded engine hours. She currently has 550 engine hours recorded, although we are still using her. We have the original bill of sale (showing VAT paid), builders certificate, certificate of conformity, handbooks for the boat, engine, transmission and all onboard systems, along with the service book.

Lewci was originally moored in Wales and when we purchased her we moved her from Cardiff to The Wash, where she stayed until September 2009, being used for exploring the local area, days out fishing and weekends away. In September 2009 we moved her 150 miles by sea to Shotley Marina, in Suffolk. From Shotley we've explored the rivers Deben, Orwell and Stour, Walton Backwaters and travelled up the Thames as far as the Millennium Wheel. We've had a great many days out and lot's of weekends. We've always felt 100% safe and her sea keeping has been first class. In January of this year we moved her back to The Wash, mooring her at Wisbech Yacht Harbour, again making the 150 mile journey by sea.

Lewci has been well suited for the two of us on days out and weekends away, as well as many days out with friends, some weekends away with friends plus days out and weekends away with two young grandchildren. We have had her lifted out annually and have checked/replaced the anodes, renewed the antifoul, serviced the engine, transmission and other systems, as well as carefully looking after her at all times. Two coats of quality wax have been applied at each liftout and an additional coat applied from time to time. Whenever we return from a trip out she has been sponged over with wash & wax and rinsed off, all of which has helped to keep her in pristine condition. We genuinely believe it will be very difficult to find a better looked after, better condition and more comprehensively equipped Merry Fisher 805. We are non-smokers and don't have any pets. We live a few miles from Wisbech Yacht Harbour and a viewing can be arranged for any day of the week, with short notice. We would be very happy to show the new owners just how everything works, how Lewci handles and to give some tuition on handling and mooring her, as required.

Lewci is fitted with a Nanni 4.380 200 BHP TDi engine, which is based on the Toyota Landcruiser engine. This engine is much more compact than the Volvo engine fitted to earlier models and is reported to be quieter, more economical and much cleaner. She is fitted with a ZF hydraulic gearbox and is shaft driven with a four blade propeller. The propeller is protected by the skeg and a prop protector and fitted with a rope cutter.

The self launching anchor is fitted with a stainless swivel, approximately 10 metres of 8mm chain and approximately 60 metres of rope, which are stored in the sizeable chain locker at the bow. The electric windlass can be operated from the helm control, which is fitted with a digital chain counter, or from a remote control at the bow.

A large bathing platform with a fold away ladder gives easy walk on access, using the transom door. The self draining cockpit is fitted with a seat that provides some extra storage and some rod holders. There is ample room for four people to sit in the cockpit, or to do a spot of fishing. There is an additional handrail along the top of the transom. Beneath the cockpit floor is the fuel tank, an electric bilge pump, manual bilge pump and a large lazarette locker.

Windscreen wipers are fitted to both front windows, along with fresh water screen washers. The spotlight is remote controlled from the helm and was new in 2009. New stainless horns were fitted in 2010. The NASA wind speed and direction system was also new in 2009

A ladder in the cockpit leads to the "Sunbridge", which provides a useful area for sunbathing and storage for the liferaft. The 6 person liferaft dates from 2003 and is in need of a service.

The saloon is light and airy with good all round visibility. The helm is on the starboard side, with the galley behind it.

The galley features a sink with hot and cold water, a two burner gas hob with a storage cupboard beneath it and a compressor fridge. The water is electrically pumped and heated by mains electricity or when under way, the engine. The helm seat folds forwards for extra work space.

At the port side, there is storage at the front and beneath both seats.

The front seat folds to provide two forward facing seats when under way, or when at rest to allow two or three people to sit at the table. The rear seat can also be extended to allow two or three people to sit at the table. The table folds open to give a large dining area or the seating and table also convert into a large double berth. A 12v power outlet is discretely fitted close to the front storage locker.

At the helm is a Garmin GPSMAP 551, which is new this year and includes full UK and Ireland G2 cartography. Also at the helm is the steering compass, fuel gauge, rudder position indicator, remote spotlamp controls, windlass control with digital chain counter and a 12v power outlet.

Fitted overhead in the saloon is the Garmin 340c fishfinder, Standard Horizon GX-3000E DSC VHF (connected to the plotter via NMEA 0183) and NASA wind speed and direction display, all were fitted new in 2009. Also overhead is the engine instrumentation, a FM stereo/CD player with two speakers and three cabin lights.

The forecabin has a V berth which converts to a double with an infill, a hanging wardrobe and a mirror. There are storage areas above and below the wardrobe, below the mirror and beneath the seating/berths. The cabin is fitted with two fixed windows and an opening deck hatch, all of which have internal covers. There are two overhead lights, a mains socket and a 12v outlet. If there are just the two of us onboard we use the forecabin as we can leave the berths made up for the duration of our stay and we find it comfortable and spacious enough.

The heads is to starboard and includes a Jabsco electric sea toilet, hand basin with hot and cold water, a shower, mirror and storage areas. Beneath the sink is some additional storage, along with the seacocks, diverter valve and switch for the electric pump out pump. Lewci is fitted with a stainless steel holding tank, the diverter valve beneath the sink allows toilet waste to be pumped to the tank or to be directly discharged to sea. The holding tank can be discharged using the onboard macerator pump or a deck mounted discharge outlet.

Lewci is fitted with two 110ah batteries and a split charging system. One battery is for engine starting and the windlass, the other is for everything else. The main isolator switch has a "combine" setting that allows the domestic battery to start the engine in case of emergency. A mains powered battery charger is also fitted.

There is a Jeanneau sun awning and frame and an aft enclosure, all in green. The sun awning canvas has had a couple of repairs but is in serviceable condition.

  • An extra pair of cleats were supplied in 2010 by Jeanneau and fitted to midships.

  • A fire extinguisher is fitted at the rear of the saloon and another beneath the steps to the forecabin.
